Do you administer medications to pets?

We will administer medications (and insulin injections) to pets as long as the pet is compliant and cooperative with the procedure. There is no additional charge for typical medication administration. However, please note that we do not provide subcutaneous fluids nor pill cats directly in their mouths.

Do you care for animals on holidays?

Yes, we work 365 days a year. For pet sitting visits that fall on major holidays, we do charge an additional $10 per visit. The Holiday fee applies on: New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Do you keep my house keys?

We prefer a keyless process to access your home. This allows for increased security for you, so you always know the whereabouts of your house keys. We will keep a key if you prefer.

Below are ways to leave a key for us:

  • Use a lockbox with a key inside and leave it on your property.
  • Have an electronic doorknob with a keypad code AND have a key on your property for us to use in the event of a power outage/device failure.
  • Provide us with your garage door keypad code AND have a key on your property for us to use in the event of a power outage.
  • Simply hide a key for us to use.

What happens if I return early from my vacation?

To commit to each service reservation and make sure you’re 100% covered, we are unable to offer refunds or service credits for early returns or cancelled visits.

How far in advance do I need to book services?

We prefer you to book services at least two weeks prior to the reservation, especially for first-time clients. That way we also have plenty of time for your free consultation (where we get the opportunity to meet your pets) prior to your first service.

“Licensed, bonded, and insured” pet sitters. What does this mean?

I am insured but not bonded because I don’t have employees. I have general liability insurance that includes coverage for pets and property in my care, custody, or control (CCC) with Business Insurers of the Carolinas — they have provided pet care business coverage since 1992. You must be a member of PSI in order to sign with them. Since 1994, PSI has been the leading educational association for professional pet sitters.

There are no professional licensing requirements for pet sitters. However, there are many courses and training certifications available to pet sitters in areas such as pet sitting, dog behavior, dog training, pet first aid, pet CPR, or various business courses. In the ever-growing pet-sitting industry, professional pet sitters need a way to separate themselves, demonstrate their knowledge and distinguish themselves as qualified, competent professionals.

That is why I am proud to announce my endeavor to become a CPPS-Certified Professional Pet Sitter® through Pet Sitters International, the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters and dog walkers. PSI is dedicated to educating professional pet sitters and promoting, supporting, and recognizing excellence in pet sitting (more info https://www.petsit.com/about).

Hiring a CPPS-Certified Professional Pet Sitter® helps you, the client, to:

  • Understand your provider’s competency in core skills and knowledge base professional pet sitters should possess.
  • Recognize your provider’s commitment to excellence in pet sitting as continuing education is required to maintain the designation.
  • Be more aware about what it takes to be a qualified professional pet sitter.
  • Promote professionalism and support standards in a largely unregulated industry.
